Mumbai, Feb. 24 -- The title track from Rohan Sippy's Dum Maaro Dum is definitely one of the most-awaited songs of the year. Deepika Padukone rehearsed extensively for it before the shoot and then learnt to her horror that the song needed 70-odd red ants to crawl up her bare back.
Aware that the insects would bite, a considerate Sippy suggested the actor use a body double since it required more than half the day to wrap. But Padukone insisted on doing the song sequence herself, unmindful of the pain in store.
The song had been choreographed in a way that it needed to be shot from different angles and so, could not be rushed. The ants had a field day but according to an eyewitness on the sets, the star did not flinch even once despite being bitten many times. Says the source, "By the time shooting wrapped up, Deepika's back was red and burning."
Sippy confirms the news, "It was really brave of Deepika to go through with the sequence. She showed amazing perseverance and professionalism. And thanks to her, the song has shaped up beautifully."
