Back in the day, when music channels actually played videos by Indi-pop artistes, names like Sukhbir and DJ Aqeel were extremely popular, thanks to the mass appeal of their videos of hit songs like Taare gin gin and Tu, tu hai wahi.
In a move that will be welcomed by their fans, the duo has now teamed up with DJ Suketu to form a new act. “We call ourselves Indian House Mafia,” says Aqeel, who recently released a new album, titled Forever 2, after a gap of three years. Aqeel’s seven-song compilation, that comprises five remixes and two orginals, also features his collaborations with Sukhbir and Suketu.
The trio also look forward to performing together.
Ask him what took so long to release this work and he says, “I have been busy setting up my nightclubs. But my friends had been coaxing me to come up with an album. And this one is extra special because it has my good friends Sukhbir and Suketu on board.” Forever 2, out on Universal Music, also features a single, Kya dekhte ho sung by Babul Supriyo and Vaishali Samant.
Besides promoting this new release, Aqeel is also busy working on Bollywood projects.
“I have composed a track for Ameesha Patel’s home production. Let’s see, I might be working on more film assignments,” he says.
