Delhi Couture week's a grand success!

By Hindustan Times

Mumbai, July 27 -- With a scintillating presentation of a beautiful collection, designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla brought a truly fashionable end to the first ever Delhi Couture Week orgainised by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). Abu-Sandeep did their show after a gap of five years in Delhi and the guests just loved what they had to offer.

Exquisitely embroidered creations in white and gold, Indian and western silhouettes, and the elegant Shweta Bachchan Nanda as the show stopper... the couture week couldn't have asked for a better finale.

The other collections showcased during the day were that of Rakesh Agarwal and Rina Dhaka. While Rakesh chose to do a brighter collection with heavier surface detailing, Rina's decision to stick to sober hues with shiny surface detailings proved to be more stylish. Rakesh's use of heavier crystals in dangling forms could have been avoided as some of them were seen falling off the garments as models walked.

Great showing

The designer also chose to have a plain, normal backdrop as opposed to other designers who had elaborate settings (as one would expect in a couture presentation) for their shows. Rina, on the other hand, had a collection that spelt style that sparkled through the fashion runway.

Silhouettes mostly stayed close to the body for Rina while it was somewhat away for Rakesh. The couture week, even though FDCI's first attempt, proved to be interesting for me. An excellent choice of designers, a team of excellent production professionals and a very nice venue in The Grand, where everything is virtually placed next to each other, and very courteous staff, made the event truly memorable.

With FDCI president Sunil Sethi taking the initiative to have this event for the first time in the Capital, the fashion scene here has come a full circle.
