"Deepti Naval and I may return in Saath Saath sequel" - Farooq Sheikh
| By Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Hungama News Network After a break of 15 years (his last notable film was Maya Memsaab), Farooq Sheikh would be returning to celluloid with Saas Bahu Aur Sensex which would be releasing all over on 12th September. Playing a stock broker in the film, Farooq Sheikh admits that he had loads of fun as he returned to face the camera for a feature film. Though it took him 15 years to return to Bollywood, in future one can expect him to on the big screen a lot more frequently. "I am busy reading scripts and the main criteria for me before I give a go-ahead to a project is that it should instill enough confidence in me", says Farooq Sheikh who has made his presence felt even with the current generation, courtesy his superhit chat show Jeena Issi Ka Naam Hai. Talking about the trend of sequels/remakes and how some of his own films have been revived by different filmmakers over last few years, Farooq Sheikh quips, "Umrao Jaan has already been remade with Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan while I believe work is already on for the remake of Chashme Baddoor. However, I know for sure that Raman Kumar is now planning a sequel to Saath Saath. Deepti Naval and me are already into a conversation. Raman is an old friend and we all may just return with the sequel." Since Saas Bahu Aur Sensex is primarily a light hearted entertainer, is he also inclined to pick up similar genre of films from here on? "Not necessarily", says the man who has more than a dozen odd critically acclaimed films to his credit ever since he was seen in Garm Hawa (1974), "Any particular genre doesn't make a difference. As I said, the subject should be interesting enough regardless of whether it is a comedy or a drama." "See, ultimately one has to look at the quality of films", reasons Farooq Sheikh, "In last 35 years that I have spent in films, I have done not more than 35 movies. We make the largest number of films and it isn't difficult to get work. If you want you can be drowned in offers as the quantum is growing every day. Newer avenues are opening up. This is when you have to act wisely and honor the kind of standard of movies, as you have maintained all these years." |
