Mumbai, April 2 -- They last worked together in the 2008 hit Bachna Ae Haseeno. And now, after a gap of five years, former couple Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone will be seen together in Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
However, not many know that the two actors almost signed another film together - Vikram Singh's untitled next.
An insider close to the project reveals that matters got complicated when it came to getting Deepika's dates. "Her diary was completely blocked with projects, which is why things could not be taken to the next level. Since the makers had already got confirmations from Ranbir and Arjun Rampal, who is also going to star in the film, amending the shooting schedule was not an option," says the insider. That is when the decision to rope in Jacqueline Fernandez in Deepika's role was taken.
"The film is a two-hero project, but both the actors have strong roles. The film is a thriller and the casting is unusual and fresh, since none of these stars have worked together before," adds the insider.
Deepika, on her part, is currently busy shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ram Leela and the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Chennai Express. There were talks in trade circles that it was Ranbir who wanted Deepika to be part of his friend Vikram's debut film. When contacted, producer Bhushan Kumar remained unavailable for a comment.
