Darsheel Safary is happy to be a role model

By Hindustan Times

Actor Darsheel Safary, best remembered for his portrayal of the dyslexic child Ishaan Awasthi in Taare Zameen Par, is working overtime to balance his acting career with studies. Currently in class 10, the 15-year-old says his parents keep a strict check on his study schedule. “They make sure I
study for 3 to 4 hours everyday and do not miss school unnecessarily,” he says.

But does he think working in a television show takes away the childhood and puts too much pressure? “I think there can be no general rule to this one. Children should definitely not be forced to work in a TV show by parents,” he says. “I worked in films by choice and my parents were totally supportive. Whether I continue to work in films or not will also be my choice.”

It seems the last five years have made the actor grow up very fast. “It’s great to see how children look up to me. There are parents who call me to say that their child would listen to me, so I should tell him to study. My words have an influence on them. It’s a great feeling to be so important in somebody else’s life but also a big responsibility,” he says in a maturity much beyond his years.

Though the very next moment, he gives a glimpse of the naughty child within as he rushes towards a 360 degree virtual rollercoaster for a ride at Hang Out, in Gurgaon. “I don’t know what I will be doing after school. I might take up animation or choreography or even act full time,” he signs off.
