Mumbai, March 23 -- At a music video awards ceremony on Thursday night, one of the major attractions was Anushka Sharma's dance performance. However, fans of the actor were left disappointed as the ceremony was halted abruptly just before she could take to the stage.
An eyewitness spotted a few policemen entering the venue when the awards ceremony was well underway. "It was around 10 pm when the cops came in and lowered the volume from the console," says the eyewitness.
Within a few minutes, the policemen were also seen pulling out wires from the mouthpieces and the speakers. "When all of this was taking place there were four primary awards left to be given away and Anushka was supposed to perform as well," says a source who was helping manage the event.
The evening, which started with Farhan Akhtar's performance of a song from Rock On!! (2008) and acts by RDB and Honey Singh, seemed to lose steam suddenly when cops arrived on the scene. However, the police's intervention didn't cause chaos. The programme wrapped up very quietly and the audience left the venue without any hassles.
When MTV was contacted, they chose not to explain the situation. "The programme was not for the public. It was being recorded for the channel. So every performance will be there when it airs on TV," said an official on condition of anonymity.
Anushka's act was supposed to be recorded separately and then merged with the rest of the footage. "I don't want to comment on it," said Aditya Swamy, EVP and business head, MTV India, when asked about the issue.
