Vidya Balan: Stopped reading reviews to keep my sanity

By HT

Mumbai, Dec. 12 -- It is absolutely a perfect way to end the year," says Vidya Balan, about 2017 coming to close on a positive note, especially with the success of Tumhari Sulu.

The National Award-winning actor says it's overwhelming to receive so much love. "The film is running in theatres till now, even after almost a month. It is going strong and that in itself is fulfilling and gratifying. Now I am just on a year-end break, because I think everyone slows down in December. Otherwise, there is no real break. Even when one is not shooting, there are narrations, meetings, script readings, etc. However, I am looking forward to celebrating this year," says Vidya. An award is a physical form of appreciation, and maybe years later when you look at it, you smile.

Recently, she won the Best Actor Award for her performance in the film. But do awards and accolades matter to her?

"What matters most is people's love. An award is a physical form of appreciation, and maybe years later when you look at it, you smile. I welcome awards with open arms and an open heart. But I can't chase them," says the actor.

And does she have the habit of reading film reviews?

"I don't (laughs), especially around the [release of the] film. If my director, my husband (Siddharth Roy Kapur) or a family member tells me to read a review, I do, otherwise I don't read film reviews. About 10 years ago, I stopped doing that just to keep my sanity. And with due respect to everything that is written about me, I don't read it," says Vidya.
