Vidhu and Naseer remain friends..

Vidhu Vinod Chopra

Mumbai, Dec. 8 -- In 1981, Vidhu Vinod Chopra started his directorial career with the Naseeruddin Shah-starrer Sazaye Maut. Later, the film-maker and the actor also teamed up on Vidhu's 1985 film, Khamosh. Vidhu had worked as a production controller on Naseer's 1983 hit, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, as well.

Even after 30 years, Vidhu and Naseer remain friends, despite the fact that they "don't meet" very often. "Naseer and I are the kind of friends who don't meet [often], but I presume that we are friends. Our lives have taken different paths," says Vidhu.

Interestingly, Vidhu still holds very close to his heart a gift that the actor gave him several years ago. "In my study at home, there is no one else's photograph, but only Naseer and mine from Sazaye Maut. Plus, there is a souvenir, which he had got for me for $2, 40 years ago, when he went to the US for the first time. I have got it framed. It reads, 'I refuse to grow up'," says the film-maker.
