Varun Dhawan meets a shrink!

Varun Dhawan

Mumbai, Oct. 21 -- In all his films so far - Student Of The Year (2012), Main Tera Hero or Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania - Varun Dhawan has played the cool dude.

But, in director Sriram Raghavan's next, which is an intense psychological thriller, the actor will be seen in a vastly different role. Exact details about his character are yet to be revealed.

However, insiders from the production house say the "emotionally draining" part had a serious effect on Varun's mood while he was shooting for the film. So much so, that the actor apparently had to visit a psychologist to get assistance to get out of character.

"Varun became really quiet while he was working on the film. He needed to get emotionally involved with the character, and because he wanted to live up to Sriram's expectations, he immersed himself in the role," says an insider, adding, "He also became snappy and irritable. In fact, at one point, his behaviour even started worrying his parents. That's when Sriram suggested that he visit a psychologist to get over this phase. He had a few sittings with the doctor last month."

Now that Varun has started shooting for director Remo D'Souza's dance-based film, he has been in a better mood. "This new film is much lighter compared to what he was working on previously, so it's not taking a toll on him emotionally," says the insider. Varun couldn't be reached for a comment.
