Mumbai, Dec. 12 -- Although Tigmanshu Dhulia's Milan Talkies has been in the news for almost two years now, the makers are yet to finalise the male lead for the film.
Over the past few months, multiple actors' names have been floated in connection to the project. It started with Imran Khan. But following a reported fallout with producer Ekta Kapoor (after the release of Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara), he walked out of the film. Imran, however, always maintained that his decision was led by personal reasons.
Prateik's name was also in the running for the lead role, but things didn't work out due to monetary issues. Then Shahid Kapoor was roped in for the part, but he opted out as he was reportedly unhappy with the names the makers had in mind for the female lead. Priyanka Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha and Shraddha Kapoor have been associated with the film at some point or the other in the past.
The most recent actor to join this list was Varun Dhawan. But it seems like he, too, is not part of the film any longer.
"Varun loved the story, but he isn't doing the film because he doesn't have time. He has just wrapped up his father's (David Dhawan) film, which will be followed by Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Sriram Raghavan's next and ABCD 2. Since Tigmanshu wanted to start the film in March next year, Varun won't be able to make time for it," says an industry insider.
When contacted, Varun refused to comment on the matter. However, Tigmanshu did shoot back saying, "Why are you people after Milan Talkies? Whenever it has to be made, it will go into production. Ek pyaari si chhoti si film hai (it's a small, cute little film). At this point, there is no major development on it."
