Sushant Singh Rajput: You learn so much subconsciously..

Sushant Singh Rajput

Mumbai, Feb. 7 -- Ever since he made his Bollywood debut (Kai Po Che; 2013), Sushant Singh Rajput has seemingly focused on making different and challenging film choices. He has worked with film-makers such as Dibakar Banerjee and Rajkumar Hirani, and is soon going to team up with Neeraj Pandey and Shekhar Kapur.

"I feel fortunate and I am grateful to them (directors) for giving me parts in their films.

You learn so much subconsciously just by working with them. They are not afraid to push the envelope," says the actor, who started off his film career with director Abhishek Kapoor before working under the direction of Maneesh Sharma (Shuddh Desi Romance; 2013).

But does teaming up with such creative minds change, in any way, the way he approaches his roles or films? "They are very sure of what not to do and what could be done. So, you are tested to come up with original ideas about approaching the scenes, and in the process, you grow as an actor. You might fail to attempt something new, but you will never be disappointed," adds Sushant.

Unlike his off-beat film projects, of late, Sushant has been spotted in a couple of fun, light-hearted ad films. Has it been a welcome change? "Oh sure it has," he says, with a smile. "It's like playing a T20 cricket match, where there is too much excitement. You are given a free license to improvise and have fun, so it's kind of liberating too."
