Mumbai, April 25 -- Actor Sushant Singh Rajput and director Dibakar Banerjee have been getting rave reviews for their recently released film, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy. Following its success, the makers are now apparently keen on making a sequel.
"Adi (Aditya Chopra; producer) is impressed with the film's box-office performance. So, he and Dibakar are thinking about a part two," says an insider, adding that Chopra thought of the idea of a sequel, as the film did good business despite stiff competition from a big-budget Hollywood action-thriller.
"In the second film, the sleuth will apparently be shown to have learnt the tricks of the trade and turned into a professional," adds the insider.
Sources say that since the story is based on a fictional detective series by author Saradindu Bandyopadhyay, the possibility of developing a franchise is high.
At present, the project is at a nascent stage. "The idea (of the sequel) has just been discussed on a primary level. So it's unlikely that Adi or Dibakar will talk about it yet," adds the insider.
We tried contacting Sushant and the spokesperson for Chopra's production house, but they remained unavailable for a comment.
