Mumbai, Dec. 27 -- After the success of her films - Raanjhanaa and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag - it looks like Sonam Kapoor has made fans in the smaller towns of India.
The actor has become so popular in Varanasi, where Raanjhanaa was shot and based in, that she's been getting offers to make appearances in the holy city in Uttar Pradesh.
A source close to the actor reveals, "Sonam has been getting a lot of invites for events in Varanasi. Major portions of her film were shot there, and Sonam has developed a strong fan base in that area. So much so, that the actor has now become the first choice for public appearances and events, especially those taking place at the end of the year and the first week of January."
We're told that January 1 is regarded as a special day for inaugurations of schools, colleges and other institutions in Varanasi, as it marks the beginning of a new year.
The source says, "Since these events involve locals who are her fans, the organisers are very keen to have the actor join them for the same. Sonam, who is shooting for her upcoming film in Rajasthan, is humbled with the requests that have been coming in from Varanasi."
