Mumbai, Feb. 12 -- While it is common to hear of actors losing weight for their roles, every now and then, some of them are also required to put on a few kilos to look their parts. Sidharth Malhotra and Aamir Khan, for instance, did so recently for their respective films.
Now, Sonali Bendre, too, has gained weight for professional reasons. However, she has undergone this transformation for the last schedule of her ongoing fiction TV show. The 40-year-old has apparently put on seven kilos.
"I play a mother of two children and it (gaining weight) was necessary for this schedule. I did so over the last one month," says Sonali, who is the mother of a 10-year-old in real life.
Talking about the challenges of putting on weight and subsequently losing it, Sonali adds, "Honestly, at this age, my body's metabolism is not like it used to be in my younger days. It is difficult, but I am managing somehow." Once she wraps up this schedule in March, Sonali will focus on hitting the gym and shedding those extra kilos.
Even though Sonali has worked extensively in Bollywood in the late '90s - she has done films such as Zakhm (1998), Major Saab (1998) and Sarfarosh (1999) - she took a break from the big screen around 2005.
Although she returned to the limelight with some reality TV shows in 2008, this ongoing serial marks Sonali's return to a full-fledged fiction role. The actor, too, admits that facing the camera after a hiatus was quite a task. "When I started working on this TV show, I felt like I was shooting for the first time. I faced a few difficulties too. But after a couple of days, I gained momentum," she says.
