Sonali Bendre roped in to revive Maharashtrian sari!

Mumbai, Feb. 19 -- Paithani - a handwoven silk sari - has always been part of Maharashtra's rich cultural legacy.

But, over the years, the art of weaving this sari has been slowly dying. However, now, the Maharashtra Government is trying its best to help Paithani weavers, and revive the art form. The government has apparently approached Sonali Bendre Behl to come on board as the face of the revival initiative.

A source close to the actor says, "Being a Maharashtrian, Sonali feels proud and honoured to endorse the ancient traditional weave. She feels strongly about the dying art of handloom in Maharashtra, and would like to spread awareness about it."

Apparently, the steps to revive the industry are still being chalked out by government officials. They are debating about whether they should hold handloom expos or do fashion shows, among other options. The source adds, "Sonali is very close to the paithani brand of saris as she has seen her mother and grandmother wearing them while she was growing up."
