Mumbai, Jan. 15 -- Sonali Bendre, who starred in Amol Palekar's Marathi film, Anaahat (2003), is said to be keen on making a comeback to the regional film industry, given the recent surge in the popularity of Marathi cinema.
"With films like Lai Bhaari (2014) doing exceptional business at the box office, Sonali has been contemplating the offers she has received in the last couple of years," says a source close to the actor.
Apparently, the offers include two big Marathi projects, which have strong, woman-oriented roles, and Sonali is keen to take them up. "She feels this would be a good time to sign a Marathi project because of the recognition the industry is getting," adds the source.
Sonali's last outing on the big screen was in the Bollywood film, Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara! (2013). She's been a regular fixture on TV since 2005, judging reality shows and even acting in a fictional show last year. The source says, "Now, her contract with the fictional show has ended, so she thinks it's a good time to work in Marathi cinema."
While Sonali remained unavailable for a comment, her spokesperson says, "Her contract with the show has expired, but Sonali, who loves experimenting and trying out new things, may soon sign her next Marathi film if all goes as planned."
