Mumbai, April 23 -- The teaser of Sidharth Malhotra's latest film, Ek Villain, seems to have earned him a new admirer in the form of Vikramaditya Motwane. The film-maker, who will direct the actor in his next movie, Bhavesh Joshi, was recently heard praising him for his versatility.
A source reveals, "Everyone was worried that Sidharth would get labelled as a romantic hero as his debut film (Student Of The Year; 2012) and his second release (Hasee Toh Phasee) were both rom-coms. But this new teaser has changed that image as it sees him in a darker avatar."
Even though Vikramaditya's next will also feature the actor in a romantic role, he will be doing a lot of action too. "He was always certain that Sidharth would pull off a challenging role, but he had never imagined him to be an action star. In this teaser, he was able to see what Sidharth is capable of and was quite pleasantly surprised," reveals the source.
The director even made it a point to compliment Sidharth on his new film. "Very subtly, he told him that he liked his work and that he's looking forward to working with him," adds the insider. Sidharth will start work on Bhavesh Joshi once he returns from his 10-day break in New York, USA.
Although the actor remained unavailable for comment, his spokesperson responded to us, saying, "Vikram really appreciated whatever he saw of Sidharth's work in the teaser. He's confident that he will do justice to their film."
