Mumbai, Feb. 9 -- Sidharth Malhotra, who went on a weight-gaining spree for his upcoming release, co-starring Akshay Kumar, is on a new mission nowadays - to lose the weight he had put on for his role of a mixed martial arts fighter. As a result, he has been following a diet that includes only vegetarian food and minimal protein.
"For the last seven months, Sidharth was on a heavy nonvegetarian diet, which mainly included red meat and fish. As a result, he gained about nine kg as it was required for the role, but now that the shoot is over, the actor wants to lose weight as he needs to start work on his next film, which requires him to have a regular physique," says an insider.
Apparently, Sidharth is gladly following this weightloss routine since he feels "it's anyway a healthier way to go about things". The insider adds, "When you eat so much non-vegetarian food, and put on weight quickly, your system undergoes a lot of changes. But now, Sidharth has opted for what he calls 'food rehab', eating only vegetarian food with no extra carbs or protein. Also, he isn't eating as much as he used to earlier. Plus, he has cut down on his calorie intake too."
Sidharth has also stopped working out in order to rest his overworked muscles. "Sidharth has lost about two kg, and plans to cut five more in the next couple of months before he starts shooting for his next," adds the insider.
When contacted, Sidharth confirmed the development, saying, "I have eaten a lot of meat and fish in the past seven months to gain weight for my film, and now I'm going completely vegetarian to detox and to give my body a break."
