Mumbai, Aug. 15 -- Even as India celebrates its 68th Independence Day, the country isn't entirely free in the moral sense. We sought the opinions of four young actors, who tell us what they would do if they got absolute freedom to make decisions with regards to four topics - love, sex, marriage and relationships.
As an Indian, I am very proud of the economic progress that our country is making, as well as our stature on the international scene. But in spite of all this, the one thing that we have not been able to escape is the restrictions that are put forth by the society and family, on who to fall in love with, whom to marry and what kinds of relations to have with people.
As consenting adults, we should have complete freedom to make such decisions, and these decisions should be free from societal pressure. Especially in smaller towns and villages, where most of our population resides, people are penalised for falling in love. Cruel things are done to them as forms of punishment. I don't understand what we are trying to protect by doing that. Instead, what we should do is make sure that people are well-educated so that they can make wellinformed choices. If I could, I would help do that (educate people).
The one thing I would change is the judgmental attitude that people have towards an individual's choices - live-in relationships, open relationships, career choices etc. I believe in the acceptance of each and every individual's choice and don't buy into the social and moral policing of our nation.

I wish people would readily embrace their incompatibilities when it comes to relationships. Differences should be used as a catalyst for growth rather than being looked at negatively. Also, relationships get strained due to professional demands these days, so maintaining a balance is the key. Lastly, I don't understand why women have to 'change' to make a relationship work. They can do anything, and we (men) need to do away with our current perception of women and our way of depicting them.
I believe everyone should have the freedom to choose their own partner, irrespective of the gender. Every human being deserves to be able to love without the fear of being judged by society.
