Mumbai, Dec. 17 -- Shruti Haasan created quite a stir as a singer-actor in her debut Bollywood film, Luck (2009); the song she recorded, 'Aazma', even went on to become a chart-topper.
Now, she is working her magic again. Shruti has sung a number titled 'Joganiyan' for the soon-to-be-released film, Tevar, that stars Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles. The movie also features Manoj Bajpayee.
Apart from lending her voice, as a playback singer, to Sonakshi Sinha for the song 'Joganiyan', Shruti will be seen performing to another number called 'Madamiyan' for the same film. In the video for the second number, she will also be seen shaking a leg with Arjun.
Although 'Madamiyan' is being considered Shruti's 'first item number', she refuses to call it one. "It's a fun song, and it's not an item number; it's a special track," she says.
Arjun, meanwhile, who isn't considered much of a dancer himself, had fun matching Shruti's steps in the number. Praising her, he says, "I give her all the credit. She didn't have time to attend rehearsals, but she did a good job by giving her hundred per cent on the sets."
Shruti, on the other hand, insists that working with Arjun was fun for her because they "have known each other for a long time". "We are good friends," she says, adding, "I had already sung 'Joganiyan' for Tevar when Arjun called me for this song and I was more than happy to work with him."
Ask her if it was odd to be playback singing for an actor who is her contemporary (Sonakshi), and Shruti says, "Not at all. The truth is, I began my career as a playback singer, so I've been lending my voice to actors for quite some time now."
Tevar - directed by debutant Amit Ravindernath Sharma and produced by Boney Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Sunil Lulla, Naresh Agarwal and Sunil Manchanda - releases on January 9, 2015. The film is being presented by Eros and Sanjay Kapoor Entertainment Pvt Ltd.
