Mumbai, Feb. 12 -- Roping in actors to sing songs for their respective films is an old promotional trick. Like several others, even Shraddha Kapoor has sung a number - a version of the track 'Galliyan' for Ek Villain (2014).
But little did she expect the hit song to earn her a nomination in the Best Debut Singer category at an upcoming music awards function.
Shraddha, who belongs to a family of singers, is thrilled. "As a kid, she used to train with her grandfather, Pandharinath Kolhapure, who is a classical singer and also Lata Mangeshkar's cousin. But over the years, singing took a backseat," says a source. However, when director Mohit Suri gave her a chance to sing 'Galliyan', Shraddha gladly took it up. "Before recording it, Shraddha got back to doing riyaz. Even though she got a lot of positive feedback, she never thought she would be recognised for it formally," adds the source.
Post 'Galliyan', Shraddha even sang a Kashmiri folk song called 'Do jahaan' for Haider (2014).
Shraddha says, "I am absolutely euphoric. I have always been interested in singing, but I never pursued it; this means a lot. I remember mentioning to Mohit during Aashiqui 2 (2013) that I would like to sing and he really encouraged me during Ek Villain."
