Shahid Kapoor: I think I've grown up!

Shahid Kapoor

Mumbai, Jan. 4 -- Last year was a productive one for Shahid Kapoor. While 2015 has a lot in store for him, the actor admits that he has evolved as an actor and as a person over the years.

You've often been criticised for not delivering hits. Now, after Haider (2014), people are appreciating you.

I don't think about it. But I'm really thankful to the audience for supporting the film. They were happy that somebody tried to make something original and different, and was fearless in taking a risk. For the audience, it's just another movie, but for the people making it, it's a career risk, and a year-and-a-half of hard work. And when we started making the film, both

Vishal (Bhardwaj; film-maker) sir and I had not had a hit for a while, so we were not on a high.

It's quite easy to let success go to your head.

I've been in this industry for 11 years and have seen enough ups and downs. So, I'm immune to it. I like to focus on the process. Working with the right people and helping them allow me to find new sides to myself is what matters to me. There really needs to be a lot of trust, faith and teamwork. When you start focussing on such things, you don't think of hits or flops. Of course, you need to be successful to have good films come to you, but that's okay. Haider is already behind me. I don't even think about it anymore.

What is it from 2014 that you will hold on to?

I feel a new chapter in my life has started. I've changed a lot as an actor and as a person. I think I've grown up. I'm not insecure, because I've seen enough failure to lose insecurity. I've reached that point as an actor where I just want to express myself and find my connect with the audience.

What are you looking forward to this year?

I don't want to change my way of thinking because of the success or failure of my films. I feel I am thinking correctly, and I want to protect that.
