Mumbai, Nov. 11 -- Earlier this year, when Nandita Das became the face of the Dark Is Beautiful campaign - that protests against skin colour bias - it got a lot of attention.
Now, Women of Worth (WOW), the organisation that initiated the campaign, say they have sent letters (copies of which are with HT) to Shah Rukh Khan and a fairness product brand, along with a petition signed by 22,000 people, to stop their ads. In the letter, they urge Shah Rukh to "lead the change by saying 'no' to unfair advertising".
When asked, SRK's spokesperson said they haven't received the letter. Meanwhile, Kavitha Emmanuel, founder and director of WOW, says, "We will address other ads too. We are not against Shah Rukh...but this is a starting point." We tried calling Nandita and sent her text messages and an email. At the time of going to press, she remained unavailable for a comment.
