Film-maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali: Special cut!

Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Mumbai, July 17 -- Film-maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known to present his characters in his films as authentically as possible.

In his upcoming movie, too, he has gone out of his way to make sure his actors look their parts. For instance, Priyanka Chopra, who is playing a pivotal role in the film, needed to look like a traditional Maharashtrian woman. So, instead of only depending on stylists, Bhansali contacted a 50-year-old woman from Pune, fondly referred to as Asha Tai, to dress Priyanka for the role.

"This Maharashtrian lady runs a small clothing business in Pune. When Bhansali got to know about her, he went to meet her, and felt that she would be the perfect person for the job," says the source.

The insider adds that Asha started working on Priyanka's look long before the film went on the floors, and zeroed in on several traditional Maharashtrian outfits for the actor.

"Priyanka was also learning to speak in Marathi, and Asha helped her get the diction right," says the source. The spokesperson of the film confirmed the news, saying, "Asha was hired to get the desired look for Priyanka's character in the film. She was with her all through the shooting schedule."
