Mumbai, Oct. 24 -- In the years 2008 and 2009, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, who is known for films like Kaante (2002) and Shootout At Lokhandwala (2007), faced a financial crisis. A couple of his films didn't work at the box-office and he faced a huge debt. It had reached a level where he had to give up his villa in Goa. He gave it to a financier on the condition that he would buy it back once he had the funds. However, things didn't work out as planned.
A source close to Sanjay reveals, "When the time came to buy it (the villa) back, the financier refused to sell it as he had started using it. He loved the house which had been fully furnished and designed by Sanjay." But now, we've been informed that Sanjay has purchased a lavish villa which he has gifted to his wife, Anu Lekhi.
Ask him about this and he says, "Those were difficult times. The irony of it all was that I had the home when I was single and when I got married, I lost it. My wife loves Goa. If she had her way, she'd settle there. So I had to buy her a home there."
Talking about his newly-bought villa, Sanjay says, "Recently, we came across this fabulous property in Candolim and we loved it. We immediately closed the deal and are now busy doing it up in time to celebrate Christmas and New Year. I'm glad I could do this for her."
