New Delhi, April 20 -- Sameera Reddy, who is in the family way, is due to deliver in the second week of May. The actor has refrained from making any public appearances through her pregnancy, and she says that it is for good reason.
"I don't think India is a pregnancy friendly country. There is a lot of pressure on celebrities to keep up a certain look. Look at how people commented on Ash (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's weight gain after she gave birth to daughter Aaradhya in 2011)). It was disgusting. I salute Aishwarya. She took her own time (to lose weight). It is not an easy thing to go through. In Hollywood, they are a lot more forgiving," she says.
Reddy, 34, shares that she suffered from some placenta complications during the initial months. "I was bedridden for five and a half months. As actors, we are used to running from one place to another, and I couldn't even get up. I found myself breaking mentally. But my family was a major support system," she says.
The actor, who married entrepreneur Akshai Varde in January 2014, says that these months have been the "only private time" that she has ever had to herself. "I haven't had a facial in eight months. As actors, we are going from one beauty and hair product to another, and here, I have a glow without doing anything. This is my shanti time," she laughs.
