Be it either to get in shape for their roles or simply to be at their fittest best, Bollywood hotties are getting weight conscious and how. From actor Salman Khan to John Abraham, and Priyanka Chopra to Sushmita Sen, here’s a lowdown of some of the actors who are on a weight-loss spree.
The Dabangg Khan, who will be next seen on the big screen in producer Sajid Nadiadwala’s debut directorial venture Kick, has lost oodles of weight for the film. Not many know that owing to his health issues, Salman was earlier advised by the doctors to go slow on the fitness front which made him gain weight. However, Salman will be seen going back to being his hunky self in the film, which also stars Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez.
Actor Priyanka Chopra, who recently completed the shooting of the Mary Kom biopic, has also lost a chunk of weight to look more convincing for the part of the world boxing champion. She recently said that shooting for the film, being helmed by filmmaker Omung Kumar, is ‘harder than the hardest’. Talking about the changes she had to undergo, Priyanka said, “I have lost weight while training for the film. I have also worked hard to build muscles for my character”.
The Kapoor scion, who is known for having given strong performances in films such as Barfi!, Rockstar and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, has been looking extremely lean lately. He has reportedly lost oodles of weight for his role in filmmaker Anurag Basu’s upcoming film, Jagga Jasoos. “As he essays the role of a 17-year-old in the film, he has undergone a lot of physical changes to suit the character requirements,” a source was quoted as saying.
The actor, who is known for having starred in films such as Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl, Ishaqzaade and Hasee Toh Phasee, too, has also shed a bit of weight recently. Talking about it, she said, “When I had entered the film industry I was big, and used to fit in that size category. Now, I feel I am not, as I have lost much more weight and look better. I am working very hard to become thin. I am taking care of myself because I want to look better.”
Sushant Singh Rajput
The Kai Po Che! and Shuddh Desi Romance star, who will play the title role of a young Bengali detective in filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee’s next, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, has shed kilos to fit into the skin of his character. “Sushant has always had a chiselled frame. But for this role, he will need to look lanky and much younger, which is why he lost some fat and muscle,” a source was quoted as saying.
The actor, who is gearing for a comeback in Bollywood, has lost a lot of weight recently. “I’ve been preparing sincerely since 2013. I know every time an actor loses weight or starts looking fitter or thinner, it is always for a reason. But this is me getting ready for the most fantastic time of my life in all aspects. Professionally and personally 2014 is going to be my year,” Sush, who starred in films such as Biwi No 1, Main Hoon Na and Filhaal, said.
Aditya Roy Kapur
The Aashiqui 2 and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani fame actor is currently losing weight for his look in his forthcoming project, Fitoor, in which he is paired opposite actor Katrina Kaif. The actor’s spokesperson was recently quoted as saying, “Aditya has been working out for his role in the project. There’s a particular brief that has been given to him and keeping that in mind, he has put himself on a diet and a strict training regime which he is following diligently.”
The actor, who will play the role of legendary footballer Shibdas Bhaduri, in Shoojit Sircar’s next, 1911, is undergoing a weight loss regime to look the part of the lean footballer. “A footballer’s strength lies in his legs. John realises that and has already started working out keeping that in mind,” a source had said.
After her marriage to filmmaker Aditya Chopra in April, the actor will be seen on screen in filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar’s Mardaani. For her role of a cop working in Mumbai crime branch unit, Rani has lost a considerable amount of weight. “Rani has trained hard to make her character of a cop look convincing on screen,” says Rafiq Gangjee from the production house.
Sonakshi’s weight loss has been more than palpable, lately. Talking about it, she said, “I’m not doing anything strenuous or unachievable. I am just being regular about my fitness schedule. Earlier I used to come back from work after a long day and won’t have any time to look after myself. Today I know that I have to go to the gym even on outdoor shoots.”
