Mumbai, Jan. 7 -- Film-maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who is known to shoot his movies on larger-than-life scales, is taking a similar route for his upcoming period drama, Bajirao Mastani. An industry source reveals that he is using as many real props as he can to give the film an authentic feel.
Since warfare is an integral part of the story, and Ranveer Singh plays the role of Maratha general Peshwa Baji Rao, the makers have sourced original armour for the actor to wear. "Ranveer not only had to shave his head to achieve the look for the film, but he also had to wear a 17 kg original armour while shooting for it," says the source.
The insider reveals that Bhansali is extremely particular about the costumes used in his films. During the pre-production of this film, extensive research was conducted for the costumes. Bhansali then got exact replicas made of certain costumes from that period.
"He is not one to compromise on his vision. He has personally supervised the sourcing of all the material that was used to make these replicas," says the source, about the film that also stars Ranveer's alleged girlfriend Deepika Padukone.
We tried contacting Bhansali, but he remained unavailable for a comment.
