Mumbai, April 29 -- Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh's alleged ex-girlfriend and current girlfriend - Anushka Sharma and Deepika Padukone, respectively - are set to clash at the box office this year.
Deepika's next (a quirky comedy called Finding Fanny) and an action thriller starring Anushka (called NH10) are both due to release on September 12.
Incidentally, all three of these stars have been in the news of late. On Karan Johar's chat show, Ranveer said about Anushka, "We were close friends (at one point of time)... but (we are) not that close anymore."
On the other hand, when Karan referred to Deepika as Anushka's "friend" on the same show, the Band Baaja Baaraat (2010) actor said, "I don't think she's a friend, she's not an enemy though."
However, from the business point of view, this clash hardly matters, say experts. "It only makes for interesting stories. How would this help any film's fate at the box office?" says producer Ramesh Taurani.
Film exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi feels that "it will probably generate some buzz before the film's release and prove to be good PR content only if the makers decide to play that card".
Adds trade analyst Amod Mehra, "Right now, the clash is on paper. Once it (the releases) really happens, then surely, the business and cinema halls will be divided. But let's wait and watch what happens."
