Bollywood: Fresh Produce!

Ranbir Kapoor

Mumbai, Jan. 1 -- In the past, Bollywood actors such as Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn have not only acted in, but also produced, the films that they starred in. And their successful stints have paved the way for more actors to follow in their footsteps.

In 2015, the likes of Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Anushka Sharma will put their money where their talent is. "It's good that they're doing it. These stars can invest smartly in scripts that they believe in," says trade analyst Amod Mehra.

Coming to the aid of a film that was stuck for a long time, Anushka turned producer with her upcoming starrer, NH10. Moreover, even before her first production hits the screens this year, Anushka has gone ahead and announced her second production venture as well. "Through the journey of my first production, I've become more mature as an actor, and as a person. As an actor, you don't actually know what happens behind the scenes and what needs to be in place before the shooting starts. This time, I've been involved in the project from scratch and I've literally experienced the process of film-making. I'm aware of all the aspects of this film, right from the technicians who are involved and the locations we've shot at, to the budgets. I did all of this as a producer," Anushka had earlier told HT Cafe.

All set to team up with his Barfi! (2012) director Anurag Basu again, Ranbir's Jagga Jasoos, in which he plays the lead alongside alleged girlfriend Katrina Kaif, will hit the screens this year. The actor is one of the film's co-producers, and recently told a magazine, "Though the studio culture has taken over Hindi cinema, there are young producers who can make a difference. It is a great experience to make a film, stand by it, market it and put it out there for audiences to see... I have a vision about the kind of cinema I want to make and I'm excited about it."

Priyanka Chopra

She's dabbled in music and is even set to make her small screen debut with a TV show in the US. But now, Priyanka has added the title of 'producer' to her CV. The actor is co-producing her next, Madamji, in collaboration with her Fashion (2008) film-maker, Madhur Bhandarkar. "When I came into the film industry, I had no one to hold my finger and show me the way... I never had a mentor, and I never even had friends who knew anything about films. So for me, it was a very lonely and scary journey, and somewhere I wanted to make a production house which is a place to introduce new talent - writers, directors, musicians and actors through maybe small, but good films," Priyanka had told.
