South remakes too loud for Hirani!

Rajkumar Hirani

Mumbai, Feb. 1 -- Rumours have been rife that Rajkumar Hirani's PK (2014) is set to be remade in the south, but the film-maker denies this, saying the rights to his hit film haven't been sold yet. "Some people have shown interest, but we haven't locked in on anyone," he says.

Ask him if he has enjoyed watching the south remakes of his other films and he admits that given the difference in cinematic sensibilities, those films are quite unlike his originals. "I found most of them to be slightly loud. But I thought the sensibility there is like that. The 3 Idiots (2009) remake in 2012, was helmed by Shankar, who made it bigger. I would never shoot like that, but it was interesting to watch," he says.

As PK deals with a sensitive subject - religion - a remake would be tricky, but Hirani says, "I've noticed that the more religious a person is, the more they have identified with the film. If it's remade down south, I feel it will be a huge film there, since people are more religious."
