Mumbai, Dec. 18 -- Of late, a number of Indian actors have been making their way into American TV shows. After Kunal Nayyar garnered a large fan-following with his turn in The Big Bang Theory, Nimrat Kaur and Suraj Sharma starred in the latest season of Homeland, that's currently on air in the US.
And now, Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra is joining their ranks with a show on the American network, American Broadcasting Company (ABC).
A source close to the actor says, "Priyanka has been roped in by the ABC network, which has shows such as Scandal, Castle, Grey's Anatomy and Modern Family in their roster, for a fictional series. She has already tasted success in the US with her singles 'In my city', 'Exotic' and 'I can't make you love me', and is looking to make the most of this popularity with her TV show."
The insider further adds that Priyanka has apparently got a deal similar to the one actor Sofia Vergara got for Modern Family. Earlier this year, Sofia topped the earnings list of a popular business magazine, which stated that she was the highest paid actress on US television with estimated earnings of $37 million. "The show will revolve around Priyanka's character. Apparently, she is the first Indian actor to be signed on for a lead role on the network," adds the source.
Priyanka confirmed this development, saying, "I am honoured and excited to have inked this deal with ABC. The fact that the network will be developing customised TV content, specifically with me in mind, is amazing. I've been a long-time fan of ABC shows, and an admirer of how the network has changed the landscape of TV through the diversity of their lead characters. To follow in the footsteps of game-changers like Sofia Vergara, Kerry Washington and Eva Longoria is a matter of pride for me. I am looking forward to this
