New Delhi, Aug. 9 -- Our Bollywood hunks and beauties leave no stone unturned to get under the skin of their onscreen characters, even if that means going bald for a film. While for some stars, prosthetic makeup and special effects do the trick, many actually shave their head off to perfect their look.
With Priyanka Chopra being the latest to sport a bald look, we look at actors who've earlier made news for taking the same route for their films.
Priyanka Chopra will be seen in a bald avatar for a sequence in her upcoming biopic on boxer Mary Kom. However, PeeCee hasn't shaved off her hair, she has used prosthetics to get the look. "Mary has done it (gone bald) in her life. This is an authentic scene in the film so, I wasn't hesitant at all. In fact, I was very excited," PeeCee had said at the trailer launch.
Actor Shahid Kapoor cut all his bouncy locks for his upcoming film, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. A source told us: "Being emphatic about his role, Shahid happily shaved his head off for just one scene in the movie, despite knowing that he wouldn't be able to work on his next project till the hair grow back."
Bollywood's very own Dabangg dude, Salman Khan had gone bald for one of his looks in Tere Naam. His first look in the movie created quite a buzz and many people, especially in the small towns of India, were spotted aping that look. The movie became a hit and the third highest grossing movie of 2003.
It was to play villain Kancha Cheena in Karan Johar's Agneepath remake in 2012 that Dutt went bald. To stay true to the role, the actor had to shave off his body hair, too, as Kancha had a disease that left him completely hairless. "Fortunately, I didn't have to tweeze my eyebrows and eyelashes as they were removed digitally during post-production," Dutt had said.
Shilpa sported a bald look for The desire (2010), but hadn't shaved off her head. Prosthetic makeup helped her get the look, and she had revealed: "Getting the bald look was a three hours job."
The actor had cut her long tresses for Amol Palekar's film, And Once Again (2010), adopting a deglamourised avatar to essay the role of a monk in Sikkim.
He went bald to play a baddie in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, RA.One (2011). "Feeling light headed... no pun intended... thanks to the director producer... can't give out too much," Arjun - who won praises for his negative role - had tweeted after going bald for his character.
The veteran actor took the bold step of shaving off her long mane for filmmaker Deepa Mehta's Water. However, the shooting of the film was suddenly stopped due to a religious controversy, and the film that was to be made with Shabana and actor Nandita Das got shelved.
