Mumbai, May 2 -- Bollywood actor Prateik, who has been missing from the big screen since his last debacle, Issaq (2013), will make his Bengali film debut soon. The actor stars in Arani Takhan, directed by debutant Sourav Chakraborty, who assisted Ashutosh Gowariker in Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey (2010).
Confirming the news, Sourav revealed that it's a love story set in the decade between two prominent events in India's history. "It's a journey of love between the time that the Babri Masjid was demolished (1992) and the Gujarat riots (2002). These were the two biggest issues that jolted the nation after Independence. I want to show that communal conflict haunts you even if you are not actively affected by it. Prateik's character is neither negative nor positive, but the film shows how there is a transformation in him after encountering adverse situations," says Sourav.
The film stars Paoli Dam opposite Prateik and also has Indraneil Sengupta in a pivotal role. "We will shoot in Kolkata, Mumbai and Gujarat, starting end of May," says Sourav.
Even though the film is in Bengali, the makers are planning an international release as well. "Certain parts that will be shot outside Bengal will have the characters speaking in their local language. There will be subtitles, and the film will also be dubbed in English for the international release. The English title is Tryst With Destiny," he adds.
