Mumbai, May 30 -- Recently, Parineeti Chopra said something that most Bollywood heroines, especially those yet to establish themselves in the industry, wouldn't let out.
When asked about whether bagging a role opposite any of the three Khans - Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman - stands a Bollywood actress in good stead, she said (in an interview to a leading magazine), "I've turned down films with the Khans. I didn't do those films because I had nothing to do in them. They were the hero's films."
Her brutally honest comment makes us wonder if it indeed is a big deal for an actress to be cast opposite the Khans. Trade analyst Amod Mehra says, "Working with any of the Khans only enhances a heroine's career. Usually, no actress will reject a movie with the topmost actors."
On the other hand, exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi feels that while working with the Khans is a huge advantage for new actresses, it is important for them to bag roles opposite younger actors. He says, "There's a shift of power in the industry right now - from the Khans, and others from that generation - to the younger lot. While it's important for actresses to work with them to aim for blockbuster films, to balance that out, it's required for them to work with the younger lot as well, who are superstars in the making."
