New Delhi, May 22 -- Actor Monica Dogra has made a name for herself with her performances in offbeat films such as Dhobi Ghat (2011) and David (2012), but she says that when she started out, she was not confident.
"I never saw myself as the leading woman type and I was not considered attractive. I was always confident of my intelligence, but I never thought that I was pretty enough," she says.
The actor, who will now be seen in a romantic-comedy for the first time, says that she always chose serious films as that was all she saw herself doing. "I spent years holding my own in the industry, but in all these years, I forgot to have fun. That is what I have consciously decided to do now," she adds. While she is all set to experiment with her roles on screen, she says that there are certain roles she will not play. "I would not want to play a shallow woman whose only purpose in life is to be pretty. I don't want to be part of such projects," she says.
In her upcoming film, Monica plays a bossy, man hater. However, she makes it clear that she's not like that in real life. "I am very different from what I play. If I don't like someone, I don't interact with them at all. It is very important for me to have a connection and gel with the people I work with," she says.
