New Delhi, Aug. 31 -- Actor-singer Monica Dogra describes herself as "pragmatic, mercurial and passionate". Although she garnered much praise for her acting debut in Bollywood with Kiran Rao's Dhobi Ghat (2010), that didn't translate into many projects for the 31-year-old.
However that doesn't affect the actor one bit. "Honestly, I choose projects that inspire me, not necessarily projects that will make me famous or rich. I think those who I've meant to impress, have been. I'm pretty happy with that," says Dogra, who's also a member of rock band Shaa'ir+Func.
And she illustrates her point saying, "I just acted in a short film Relapse directed by Rosie Haber in Los Angeles, co-starring Casey Legler, who is a superstar in her own right for being a Queer activist, and an Olympic swimmer. I also just finished shooting Mirage in New York. These are the sorts of projects I want to do."
"At the end of the day, I aim to make the world a better place through my art ... I do not want to serve up cheap thrills and fantasy, though I think there is space for that, I am clear about where my contribution lies. That being said, I'd love to shoot a comedy! I'm actually a funny person," she says.
Monica, who has also sung a few Bollywood numbers, says she'd love to work with her debut director, Kiran, again. "Both Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan said that they were impressed with my acting, and called me a very fine actor. I would love to work with them again. I don't think the right thing has come up yet!"
