Nobody remembers your awards: Manoj Bajpayee

By HT

New Delhi, Oct. 6 -- Actor Manoj Bajpayee belongs to that rare breed of actors whose films have received commercial and critical acclaim - Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012) and Special 26 (2013) being examples.

His acting has won him several awards, including the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Award in the Best Actor (Critics' Choice) category for Aligarh (2016). Bajpayee, however, says, "Everybody is going to forget which and how many awards you have got."

The actor says that it's your skill and talent that's most important and will help you face challenges. "When you get up in the morning after celebrating the award you won, you realise that you are again standing on platform zero. Every day is a new morning, with a new challenge staring at your face."

The 48-year-old, who has a slew of releases lined up, is unperturbed by the fact that Bollywood has been going through a lean phase, barring occasional hits such as Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Bareilly Ki Barfi.

"Nothing has gone wrong with our films. We have to keep coming up with stories which have the power to impact everyone's lives, by depicting the common man's struggles. Even Raj Kapoor used to make mainstream films, but look at the stories he wove on-screen. It was about the common man! Somewhere, we just have to go back to the roots where we come from and take up stories from there," he says.
