Actor Mallika Sherawat was mobbed by a crowd as she reached her native village Moth Rangran in Hisar district to shoot for a TV serial on Tuesday afternoon.
Sherawat, whose real name is Reema Lamba, visited her village after 15 years and was surrounded by a crowd of 3,000 to 4,000 people.
The 36-year-old actor was here to shoot some scenes of her ancestral house and the village gurdwara for her show ‘The Bachelorette India -- Mere Khayalon ki Mallika’.
The unruly mob surrounded the car and even the police failed to control it. Sensing trouble, Sherawat’s bodyguards advised her to leave the place. Following this, she did not step out of the car and soon left the village.
SHO Bijendar Singh, who reached the village with a team of around 40 police personnel, said, “The organisers had not informed the police of the visit, and that the programme should have been held in an open space. Things could have turned nastier but we managed Sherawat’s safe return. The youth had come from far and wide to have a glimpse of the actor.”
Realising the gravity of the situation, the TV channel team left the place in a hurry. Sherawat’s relatives who had gathered at the family house to receive her were left disappointed, so was the local media.
Sherawat’s father Mukesh Lamba, a retired Haryana engineer, was seen confused as he unsuccessfully tried to make way for his daughter at the gurdwara where the camera team was waiting for her. She was later to drive a tractor and reach the middle of the village, but all plans had to be shelved.
