Madhuri: 'People know more about me'

Madhuri Dixit

Mumbai, June 5 -- Recently a report claimed that Madhuri Dixit is now looking to sign solo projects instead of those with ensemble casts.

Among the offers she allegedly rejected on these terms was the role of Ranveer Singh's mother in Zoya Akhtar's next. But the actor says, "I don't know where such news comes from. People know more about me than I do. As for films, I have some scripts, but I'll look into them once the show (a reality show she is part of) is over."

Her movie projects, online dance academy and a TV reality show ensure that Madhuri Dixit has a lot on her plate. Ask her about juggling them successfully and she says, "I don't take on more than I can chew. I work at my own pace. Dance isn't work for me, so I have fun doing it. I love learning new things too. For instance, I've been doing tae kwon do with my kids."

The new season of the show she judges, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, is about to go on air, and Madhuri will no longer be seen in the heavy Indian wear she sported on previous seasons. "This look will be different. I will have a lot of western wear this time. I'm trying new dance styles as well. In one performance, I will be doing salsa, tango and flamenco," she says.

With film stars turning to TV ever so often, ask Madhuri if the small screen has become an alternate career of sorts and she denies it. "TV could be an alternate career for someone who wants it to be. I do it because I love dancing and it helps me connect with my fans, including those from a different generation, like younger kids. The sky is the limit for actors," she says, adding, "Today, actors should be able to perform in any medium. With the Internet, the world has become a small place and there is so much to choose from. The audience learns so much from reality shows on TV."
