Mumbai, Dec. 29 -- Looks like 2015 will be dominated by sportscentric films. Even as Sushant Singh Rajput and Emraan Hashmi get ready to begin shooting for their biopics (based on the lives of MS Dhoni and Mohammed Azharuddin respectively) around February, now the buzz is that John Abraham will also start his Shoojit Sircar directed film next year.
The movie is based on the true story of Bengal football club Mohun Bagan's historic win against the established English football club of the East Yorkshire Regiment.
"Right now, Shoojit is busy with post-production on Shamitabh that stars Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan. He wants to attach either a teaser or a trailer of his football movie with this film. Once he is free, he will start work on the football film which requires a lot of research and effort, as it's based on a historical event," says an insider.
If all goes well, John and Shoojit will start preparing for the film around mid-2015. "The makers' aim is to hit the floors towards the end of next year. One of the main reasons is that, till then, John will also be busy with his other releases - the sequel to Welcome (2007), followed by Nishikant Kamat's next. So the best time would be the end of next year. Neither John nor Shoojit want to hurry, since they love football and want to give their best to the film," adds the insider.
When asked, Shoojit remained non-committal, saying, "Right now, I am busy with the post-production work of my next. Alongside, we are also trying to wrap up the script (of the football film). Until I don't have a bound script in hand, I can't decide on the start date."
