Mumbai, Aug. 8 -- In a recent interview to this newspaper, Salman Khan had said that Jacqueline Fernandez could've been a star years ago, but the press "killed her", implying, perhaps, that she got a lot of negative publicity.
Ask Jacqueline what she feels about Salman's view, and she says, "I don't think you can completely blame the press, because, I believe that if you're good at what you're doing, and if the audience accepts you, then nothing can come in your way. But I can understand what Salman is saying... I probably needed to work harder. It's very sweet of him, though [to say what he did]."
She starred opposite the actor in the recently released Kick. With all the celebrations post the success of the film now over, do Salman and she still keep in touch?
"Right now, everyone has moved on to their own projects. We had a great Eid celebration. We have fantastic memories from the shooting, and now that it is over, I have to learn to move on. I have to learn to not get too attached," says Jacqueline.
Jacqueline Fernandez has had a great run at the box office, with her latest release entering the coveted '200 crore club. A few days prior to turning a year older, Jacqueline says she's happy to have a "working birthday" on August 11.
So, does she feel that she has finally got her due after being around in the industry for five years? The actor says, "Honestly, it's not about getting my due, but I'm now seeing the results of the hard work I've put in over the years. And it did take me that long to adjust." Jacqueline explains that, as someone new to India, it took time to adjust to the culture and language, and she had to learn everything from scratch. Talking about her work, she says, "I always felt that I was getting my due. Even when I started off, it was more than what I could ever have asked for."
Recently, there were rumours that Jacqueline had signed a film to be produced by Karan Johar, and in which she would be paired opposite Sidharth Malhotra and Akshay Kumar. Is there any truth to this speculation? She says, "No, that's not been signed. Karan would be the best person to talk about this."
