Jackie Shroff: The remake man of Bollywood!

Jackie Shroff

An increasing number of film-makers — all looking to produce remakes — seem to be browsing through Jackie Shroff’s filmography.

That explains why four of the veteran actor’s films are set to be remade in Bollywood now. Apart from a remake of Jackie’s debut film, Hero (1983), his 1989 hit, Ram Lakhan, is also set to get a reinterpretation. Film-maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is rumoured to be keen on remaking Khalnayak (1993), which featured the actor.

Jackie’s 1985 hit, Teri Meherbaniyan, is another film that is apparently set for a remake. Jackie himself is believed to have approached some writers for the same. Ask Jackie about this, and he says, “I feel glad that my films are being remade for today’s generation. It’s exciting to see them repackaged.”

However, Jackie feels a remake is a big responsibility. “Of late, in a number of cases, justice hasn’t been done to the remakes,” he says.

Unlike many of his contemporaries, who don’t support the trend of remaking old hits, Jackie has no complaints. “If it’s done tastefully, I don’t mind it,” he adds.

Interestingly, Jackie’s son, Tiger, is not interested in starring in the remakes of any of his father’s films. Ask the senior star about his decision, and he says, “Tiger has been clear that he wants to chart his own career path. Also, I don’t want to burden him with the load of my films.”
