New Delhi, July 1 -- Actor Huma Qureshi shares anecdotes from her college days, and gives tips to this year's DU aspirants.

My college days were fun but I remember there was this confusion about whether to go for a popular college or take the course of my choice. I think that it is important to follow your passion, that was what I did. Going to a better college may seem more glamorous and expose you to many more things, but it's better ki tashan ki peechhe nahi bhagke, jo aapko karna hai woh karo.

I took up history honours in Gargi college (2007 batch), and was also involved in dramatics, debating and was the editor of the newsletter of my department. I think DU allows you to explore yourself as a person. You meet amazing people and forge new friendships, you travel for festivals, you dance, sing, bunk classes and study. I think it is a great learning experience.

Whatever I am today is because of those three years that I spent in DU. The place really helped me develop as a person. My life was very sheltered before I entered college. I used to be driven around in my car and would be chaperoned everywhere. Going to college really made me independent.

In fact, I remember that I started watching films only in college. There was a club that Ira Bhaskar, Swara Bhaskar's (actor) mother, used to run. She is one person who I have to thank for opening my eyes to the world of cinema. She would organise film screenings and discussions with filmmakers. For all of you who are trying for admission now, getting into a good college seems like the end of the world, but there is life beyond this as well.
