Mumbai, March 6 -- Farhan Akhtar's portrayal of Olympian Milkha Singh in the biopic on the latter's life, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (BMB; 2013) won him many accolades and critical acclaim.
And the role also seems to have won the actor many fans in Punjab, the state the sprinter hails from. The fan base has proven to be favourable for Farhan's recent release, Shaadi Ke Side Effects (SKSE), as the film has done good business there.
"BMB has left a lasting impression of Farhan on audiences across Punjab. So much so, that SKSE has done very good business in the eastern part of the state. Punjab is one of the most difficult territories to appease (due to a popular regional film industry).
In the past, only films of the Deols (Sunny, Bobby and Dharmendra) have worked exceptionally well there. However, SKSE has been positively received," says a source close to Farhan. The source adds that the actor is happy with this news. "Farhan is glad that his last role has worked so well. He's happy that as an actor, he could form a connection with the audience."
When contacted, Farhan says, "I'm overwhelmed with the kind of response that the film has been getting." Giving out more details, his spokesperson adds, "Farhan is elated that he has been able to break into the Punjab market with the aid of his previous role of Milkha Singh. The movie was close to his heart and he's happy that his current movie, too, is doing very well."
