Mumbai, Feb. 22 -- Divya Dutta is not the quintessential Bollywood heroine. You'll rarely see her dancing around trees or doing conventional roles.
Instead, she prefers character-driven films. The actor, who received accolades for her powerful performance in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), seems to have done it again with Badlapur. Several reviews have praised her performance in the Sriram Raghavan-directed thriller Badlapur.
When asked how she manages to repeatedly find such interesting roles to play, she says, "I work hard for it. You have to let film-makers know what you want. Only then do they give you those parts. They don't come to you on their own."
In the film that also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Varun Dhawan, Divya plays one of the three women in the protagonist's life. Her intimate scene with Varun Dhawan also seems to have garnered a lot of attention.
"I've loved Sriram's work always. When I had heard about this film, I had a strange feeling that I'll be a part of it. Then this role came up and I was on board, but I didn't know that the film was with Varun. I think all other roles, including mine, are layered," reveals Divya.
Having wrapped up Badlapur, Divya has started preparing for her next film.
Interestingly, she will reunite with actors Irrfan Khan and Kunal Kapoor, with whom she last shared screen space in Aaja Nachle (2007).
"It's a fun role and I am looking forward to it," she says. Directed by Abhinay Deo and produced by Rakesh Roshan, the film will see Divya play one of the two female leads.
She adds, "Irrfan is fun to work with. I love the fact that he keeps you on your toes as an actor. He's spontaneity personified. You're always alert while working with him."
