New Delhi, Nov. 26 -- Celebrities getting trolled on social media for expressing their opinions on social issues is not new, but actor Dia Mirza says she fails to understand the reason behind this. Actors such as Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor and most recently Aamir Khan have faced the wrath of the Twitterati.

"We (film personalities) are people, we have opinions, feeling and aspirations, and I think it is wonderful that many celebrities speak their mind on issues of national relevance. Just because someone is in films, it does not mean that he or she is not an active participant on social issues," says Mirza.

Talking about her own experience, the actor, who made her Bollywood debut with Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein (2001) says, "I've been trolled many times for commenting on something that politicians have said in the past. I don't get involved in politics but if people are making irrational social comments that can just paint the perception of humanity then you are going to question it and I don't hold back from asking."

From speaking up against animal cruelty to working for the betterment of the underprivileged, Mirza has associated herself with multiple social causes.

"Your choices get magnified a lot more if you are a celebrity, but working towards nation building is not a byproduct of fame. If I wasn't in films, I would have still done all of this. What does happen is that when you are an actor or a media personality there is a certain amount of interest that you generate and it does have positive influence on more people," says Mirza.
