Mumbai, Nov. 17 -- Even though newer actors are gradually creating a place for themselves in Bollywood, Deepika Padukone, who is riding high on the success of her recently released film, is unperturbed.
The 28-yearold talks about being content with her career, her excitement about the kind of work being made in Bollywood, and not being able to work with Salman Khan.
You are being considered the number one actress in Bollywood now. But others - especially the younger ones - are also moving fast. Do you keep a track of the competition around you?
It's (acting) not a game of chess. I don't think you can calculate others' moves. I can't be sitting here and wondering, 'What's happening in front of me, behind me or by my side?' The only thing that matters is what I do in front of the camera when it's rolling. I can do anything before or after that; that's not going to make any difference.
Even though news of your issues with Katrina Kaif were doing the rounds till sometime ago, the actress, recently spoke to us about you, saying that if someone has given back-to-back hits, that person deserves applause. Your comment.
I have denied such things (reports of a catfight with Katrina), but I still keep reading reports stating, 'Oh, there was some issue or this one has an issue with that one'. Sometimes, when we deny something, you all (media) should just believe us.
Does it bother you when you hear rumours about yourself?
I have been brought up to believe that if someone is saying something, you take it at face value. We are all here to do good movies and encourage each other. We are in the most exciting times in terms of the kind of films being written or the directors and actors we have; it's all very exciting.
Several reports about you working with Salman Khan have emerged over the years. Yet, no film is in the offing. What's happening on that front?
Film-making is like that. Sometimes, it's not just about the script. Other factors like dates, timings and scheduling are also involved. All these things, fortunately or unfortunately, come in the way of making a movie. If it (a film with Salman) hasn't happened yet, then it isn't meant to be. He offered me my first film, which I couldn't do, and unfortunately, everything after that hasn't worked out.
You are set to work with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and co-star Ranveer Singh again in an upcoming film. When do you start shooting for it?
Ranveer has been fully involved because he has started working on it. But I will join them much later. I am not as stressed as they are right now. Currently, I am only thinking about the two films that I have already started shooting for. Eventually, when I start working with Sanjay, I am sure I will be nervous. Working with him isn't easy (smiles).
