New Delhi, Sept. 8 -- Lately, Bollywood has been seen taking a keen interest in sports, with some buying teams in various sporting leagues and others promoting specific games. Taking a cue, a badminton league featuring several film actors from the south is set to have Deepika Padukone as one of the chief guests at the event.
"We have invited Deepika Padukone to be the chief guest for one of the days during the league. She has, in principle, agreed to be a part of it," says Mouli Madhan, the founder and chairman of the three-day event, slated to take place later this year.
Madhan reveals that former Indian badminton player and Deepika's father, Prakash Padukone, and ex-badminton champion Pullela Gopichand will also attend. "We have seen how the presence of Bollywood celebs at sporting events attracts the media's attention. Deepika's presence will definitely publicise our league, in turn promoting the sport," adds Madhan.
The organisers, who have roped in badminton player PV Sindhu as the brand ambassador of the league, have also invited Sachin Tendulkar to be a special guest. Deepika Padukone remained unavailable for comment on her scheduled presence at the league.
